I was lucky enough to have a mother who read to me. We went to the library every week when we did the grocery shopping.
I remember the fantastic old-book smell of the stacks as I’d wander around. I was amazed that there were so many books in the world (as I saw it then), and wanted to read every one of them.
I’d never leave without an armful of books, either – at least one of which I’d read on the way home. I can vividly remember the poor librarian trying to herd me back into the children’s section once I realized that an adult book would last me far longer than the thin children’s selections (most of which I’d read anyway). Back then, we didn’t have Young Adult books as much.
Once I discovered the fantasy and science fiction section, I was hooked. What are your favorite reading memories?
