I’ve been “attending” a few virtual conferences this summer. No sci-fi unfortunately, but writing tips & tricks translate across the genres.
Summer is one of the best times for conferences… many people have time off to attend and they’re looking for interesting things to do. Right now, I’m listening to a session from the Historic Novel Society on self-publication. Not that I intend to go that route, but it’s by Jane Friedman and she’s always got useful information.
I’m happy to be sitting here listening, too. We accepted a July 4th invitation to a friend’s country property, where we had a late lunch and fireworks. My elderly camp chair collapsed as I was trying to get to my feet and I tripped over it and fell, skinning my knees and giving myself some lovely bruises. I’m way too old for that sort of thing and feel like a creaky old tin man who needs some serious oiling!
Other virtual sessions I’ve enjoyed this summer have been about adding conflict to your story and outlining the “beats” in your plot to help you write the story more easily. Looking forward to Fall, when there are a couple more conferences scheduled.
