I’ve been working on several projects this month. They range from writing short stories for anthologies to continuing to edit the sci-fi novel to writing articles for pay on Upwork.
I’ve finished editing the Sisters in Crime story for the anthology “Rock & Roll & Ruin” and included a new plot twist on the advice of the editor. She loved my twist and has moved my story to the “completed” file. I’m looking forward to seeing it in print.
I’m working on several romance plots for a publisher who needs them for her ghost writer. I get a flat fee for every plot I send in. It’s not a whole lot, but it pays for a night out at a restaurant for me and the roomie, so that’s fine with me. I also send in blog articles to a different publisher. These pay more, so I tend to spend a little more time on them than on the romance plots. I can get a week’s worth of groceries for an article.
I’ve also been shortlisted for another anthology and should hear back on their final decision in a month or so. This is the Inclusive Future anthology on “What Will Gender Be Like in 50 Years?” They’re fashioning the anthology as a magazine, so they wanted “articles” and “advertisements” and even a “Dear Abby” column. Should be a fun read even if my story doesn’t make the final cut.
And I have my eye on several anthologies due in the next few months. Haven’t gotten any firm plot ideas yet, but they’re percolating. In the mean time, I work on my two blogs and guest-host on the Western Fictioneers blog once a month. That and my two critique groups keeps this writer pretty darn busy!
