It’s the first Wednesday of the month, so it’s time for another Insecure Writer’s Support Group Post!
Not feeling very insecure at the moment because I finished NaNoWriMo (and I have the t-shirt to prove it). But I will answer this month’s question:
In your writing, what stresses you the most? What delights you?
When I write, I get stressed out if the words just won’t flow. If I’m having trouble visualizing the next logical step, the stress intensifies, which, of course, means it’s even harder to write. I like having a clear pathway from one plot point to the next, even if I don’t always know exactly how the story is going to end. I’m a “plantser,” working with a minimal outline but allowing for deviations along the way as my characters react to whatever I throw at them.
As for delight, I’m delighted when everything is going smoothly, and the characters and their actions are logical and believable. My characters don’t always do what I think they’ll do, but at least most of the time their actions follow from their personalities and the situation they’re in. That makes me happy.
