OK I know I just finished Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe but when I find an author I like, I’m like a Netflix binge-watcher. I devour their backlist.
I’ve read South of the Buttonwood Tree & The Lights of Sugarberry Cove already, and am looking for more by this author. Each of the books has some sort of magical occurrence at its heart and tells the story of two women trying to find their path in life.
South of the Buttonwood Tree has a magical “buttonwood” (sycamore” tree that dispenses actual wooden buttons with advice written on them when you ask the tree a question (you only get one question a year though). The Lights of Sugarberry Cove has a magical lake spirit who saved one woman’s life, leaving her with mystically sparkling silver hair and rapid healing powers. In Buttonwood Tree, a woman who wants a family finds a baby abandoned beside the tree, with a button saying “Give the baby to Blue Bishop,” which is her. Her friend Sarah Grace is trying to find her own way amid a lifetime of promises and family expectation. In Sugarberry Cove, two sisters must return home to their mother’s B&B when she has a heart attack. Sadie, the one with the silver hair, has a thriving video business telling Southern stories & sharing family recipes and doesn’t have much time to spare. Leala, her sister, is dealing with a rambunctious toddler & a workaholic husband. Both of the women must learn what’s really important in life.
If you like fantasy novels or women’s fiction with a lot of heart, try any of Heather Webber’s books. You won’t regret it.
