It’s First Wednesday, so time for another Insecure Writer’s Support Group post.
May 3 question – When you are working on a story, what inspires you? When I’m working on a story, many things can inspire me. As a science-fiction author, I’m more likely to be inspired by a science article or news byte I’ve seen, something that explains a plot point I’ve been musing over. I’m also inspired by the books I read, whether they’re sci-fi or not. Seeing how another author handles a certain situation is inspiring. I never understand those writers who say they never read. That’s like a business owner saying they never study the market!
Inspiration comes in all sorts of packages. You can be inspired by the tiniest thing you’ve seen or heard, by an emotion you’ve experienced, or even by something you remember that may not have made much of an impact when it happened. You never know what’s going to tickle your muse and provide the inspiration for your next scene. Keep your wits sharp and stay alert to inspiration in all its forms and you will become a better writer.
