So I did something to my knee a couple of weeks ago… the X-ray didn’t show anything, which means it’s a tendon or ligament or cartilage or something else in that general category. I did this by walking down the two steps from my porch to the driveway! Guess I’m getting old and decrepit or something. Actually, it was twinging me at work that afternoon, but when I bent it to walk down the steps, I heard a pop and it felt like someone stabbed me behind my kneecap, so I figure whatever it was, the step was the last straw.
So far, I’ve seen three different doctors and I still have to see the orthopedic specialist (they couldn’t fit me in until the first week of October!). The ER doctor was just going to send me home but I asked if I could at least have a brace! My pain clinic doctor told me to “deal with the pain.” Fortunately, my real doctor (that’s Steve Hamberis if you’re shopping for a good physician) gave me a steroid shot and arranged for an MRI. I’m doing physical therapy but so far most of the exercises just make the knee hurt worse, so I’m not that encouraged by my progress on that front.
Of course, the prescription for a bum knee is to stay off it as much as possible. With my job, that’s not entirely possible but I do try to sit down as often as I can. And at home, I’m in the library with the recliner and a pillow under my knee. We’ll see how it feels by October. Hopefully, the specialist (the same guy who did such a good job on my ankle by the way) can figure out a quick solution that won’t make me miss too much work!
