It’s First Wednesday, so it’s time for a new Insecure Writer’s Support Group post! This month’s question: In this constantly evolving industry, what kind of offering/service do you think the IWSG should consider offering to members?
Of course, more services means more work for the good folks who run our site! However, if we’re considering infinite volunteers, here are a few ideas:
I think we should consider offering services such as listing our members who are editors as well as writers. We could have a members-only section where we could advertise our services and prices. Another useful service could be a list of submission opportunities for short story sales. I’ve seen other websites create such ongoing lists and it would be much more convenient to come to a website where we already hang around instead of trying to remember where we saw that submission list…
And what about partnering up with some of the bigger sites, like Submission Grinder or Authors Publish? We could link to some of their pages and they, in turn, could link to our group for some of our specialties.
If we’re talking “the sky is the limit,” we could create our own AI writing software like Sudowrite, which could be used by members to help create outlines, synopses, and blurbs, or to analyze writing samples for grammar, spelling, and developmental problems. Of course, no serious writer would even think of using an AI to actually write their material!
